WhatsApp automation

WhatsApp automation with no-code workflows

WhatsApp automation in 2Chat runs on Flows, a visual workflow builder. Pick the event that starts each workflow, add messages, menus, conditions and HTTP requests, and publish it without writing code.

How it works

How WhatsApp workflows work in 2Chat

Each workflow starts from a trigger on one of your WhatsApp channels and runs the steps you connect on the canvas, in order, for every conversation that matches.

  1. 01

    Choose the channel and trigger

Open Flows, click New flow and select the WhatsApp channel and the event that starts the workflow.

  2. 02

    Add steps on the canvas

Press the plus button to add messages, menus and questions, then connect each step to the next one.

  3. 03

    Branch and call external APIs

Use conditions to split the workflow into true and false paths, and HTTP requests to read or send data.

  4. 04

    Publish the workflow

Publish to start running it, keep it as a draft while you build, or unpublish it to stop it.

Capabilities

What the workflow builder includes

The triggers, steps and data you can combine in a workflow, in the order you use them on the canvas.

  • Seven triggers

Message received, call missed, webhook invoked and four WhatsApp group events start a workflow.

  • Execution window

Set how long a conversation keeps its context before the same event can start the workflow again.

  • Messages with media

Send text with variables, images, videos, audio and documents, with an optional delay and typing indicator.

  • Questions and custom fields

Wait for the contact's reply and save it to a custom field that later steps can use.

  • Text menus

Offer numbered or keyword options, each connected to its own next step, plus a branch for unexpected replies.

  • Conditions and time ranges

Compare variables, chat session data or the last message, including time ranges in your number's time zone.

  • HTTP requests

Call an external API with parameters, headers and a body, and map the JSON response to custom fields.

  • Webhook trigger

Start a workflow from any app with an HTTP POST to the workflow's URL, passing the number and variables.

Uses

What you can do with WhatsApp automation

Reply to new messages with a menu

Greet each new contact by name and offer a text menu that sends them to the right next step.

Answer outside business hours

Check the current time against your opening hours and send a different reply when the team is offline.

Follow up on missed WhatsApp calls

Start a workflow when a call is missed and message the caller in their own language.

Send WhatsApp messages from other apps

Trigger a workflow from your store, CRM, Make or Zapier with a webhook call that carries the number and variables.

Questions & answers

Frequently asked questions about WhatsApp automation

Yes. Flows lets you build a WhatsApp chatbot as a workflow: a trigger such as Message received starts it, and messages, text menus and questions answer the contact step by step.
No. You build every workflow on a visual canvas by adding steps with the plus button and connecting them. Code is only involved if you call your own API from an HTTP request step.
Seven triggers: Message received, Call missed, Webhook invoked, Group message received, Someone joined a group, Someone left a group and Someone was removed from a group. You choose one in the workflow's initial step.
Yes. Add a condition that checks whether the current time is inside a time range, for example Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 18:00. The time zone is the one of the connected number.
Yes. The HTTP request step calls any external URL with parameters, headers and a body. You can map values from the JSON response to custom fields and use them in later messages or conditions.
Yes. With the Webhook invoked trigger, 2Chat gives the workflow a public URL. Any app that sends an HTTP POST with the destination number and variables starts the workflow for that contact.
Yes. Group triggers start a workflow when a group message arrives or when someone joins, leaves or is removed from a group. The workflow can reply in that group, in another group or to a phone number.
Flows is included on every 2Chat plan. It is part of the Solo plan, the entry plan at US$31 per month billed annually, and you can try 2Chat free for 7 days.
